Amendments made as Kazakh First Deputy PM Smailov took part in EECC meeting

Kazakh First Deputy Prime Minister – Finance Minister Alikhan Smailov partook in a follow-up meeting of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council (EECC) in Moscow, putting forward for consideration 36 approved and 10 additional issues at stake. As they met, a draft agenda for a Eurasian Inter-Parliamentary Council meeting scheduled for April was endorsed.

An update on the progress made under the by-laws of the EEU, the concept of formation of the Union’s common financial market, the talks on treaties on free-trade zones with Egypt, Serbia and Israel, the realization of the Supreme Council’s Decision No.72 was presented following the meeting.

There was a substantive discussion on the stumbling blocks that are most acute for the member States of the Union on the domestic market, on which an overall mutually acceptable solution was found, the press service of the Finance Ministry reported.

A draft joint statement by the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council to mark the 5th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the EEU of 29 May 2014 came under discussion, as well as amendments to the common quarantine phytosanitary requirements for quarantined products and facilities on the customs frontier and customs territory of the EEU were approved.

Part 2 of the Plan for elaborating technical regulations of the EEU and the Customs Union technical regulations, the Customs Union’s technical regulation on the safety of cosmetic products will be amended.

A list of products in respect of which Kazakhstan, pursuant to the commitments made as the terms of accession to the WTO, imposes import customs duties lower than duty rates of the EEU common customs tariff and the sizes of such duty rates will also undergo amendments. 

Amendments to the treaty setting the order and terms for eliminating technical barriers to mutual trade with third countries, to the draft regulations issued by the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on the implementation of plans for liberalizing certain services sectors as part of the EEU and on the EEU Food Policy Council were approved.   

The meeting meets the strategic interests of Kazakhstan, adding great dynamism towards the changes and globalization of economic integration procedures and a desire for integration among the EEU member States regionally and internationally.
