Astana hosts inter'l conference on children's rights protection

Astana has started international conference "Child-Friendly Kazakhstan" dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the 70th anniversary of UNICEF.

The event is supported by the Majilis, the Commissioner for Children's Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan, the UNICEF Representative in Kazakhstan, representative of the European Union.

"We express special gratitude to our foreign guests - international experts, coming from Switzerland, Great Britain, Norway, Ireland, Germany, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Latvia, Lithuania. We hope the conference will provide a platform for a permanent and constructive dialogue, bringing together international, national, non-governmental organizations on topical issues of children's rights in accordance with international standards", - Commissioner for Children's Rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan Zagipa Balieva addressed the participants.

The international event brings together more than 1,300 participants from 30 countries, including children's ombudsmen from countries near and far abroad. The emphasis was on countries that have a positive experience in protecting the rights of children and willing to share their best practices. 

The conference also included a presentation of the results of the multi-indicator survey in 2015 in Kazakhstan for many indicators (MICS) as an internationally recognized mechanism for monitoring the situation of children.
