According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Director General of UNESCO for Social and Human Sciences Ms Nada Al-Nashif and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to UNESCO Nurlan Danenov appeared at the official opening of the event.
Director of UNESCO noted the special role and support of Kazakhstan in promoting this global initiative, the official inauguration of which took place in August 2013 in Astana with the participation of UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and the High Representative of the UN Secretary General for the Alliance of Civilizations.
N. Danenov informed the participants about the measures taken at the national level, the efforts of Head of State N.Nazarbayev aimed at maintaining intercultural and interreligious dialogue, an atmosphere of respect, tolerance and stability in Kazakhstan’s society. In this connection, the attention was paid to the forthcoming the V Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which is seen as a practical contribution to implementation of ideas and the implementation of the Action Plan of International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures.
A key success factor of the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures is a direct participation of the countries in its holding, the implementation of various projects at the national, regional and international levels. Chairman of "Culture" Fund Olzhas Suleymenov, who participated in the conference, in particular, presented to the experts the Kazakh project "Great migration of peoples" implemented under the auspices of UNESCO.
Results of the first expert conference on International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures will be included in the Roadmap for building priorities for the implementation of the Action Plan of the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures for the short period from 2015 to 2017.
